Dance your cares away on the wood floor in our big air-conditioned dance hall! We're fun and friendly. Our caller/instructor is the internationally known team of Nasser & Jeanna Shukayr. We offer a full range of dances and workshops for all levels from Beginner thru Advanced-2. There is also an abundance of square and round dancing in the surrounding Rio Grande Valley. It's fun and easy to find dances to fit your level of interest. Enjoy a variety of square dance sessions to have fun, visit with friends, listen to music, get exercise, stay current, improve your overall outlook on life, and enjoy Modern American Square Dancing. WHAT DOES IT COST?
Sessions are $4 per person. For your convenience, prepaid dance cards are available.
MAY I ATTEND MORE THAN ONE SESSION PER WEEK?
Absolutely! Attend all dance sessions you enjoy, and enjoy all dance sessions you attend!
WHAT ARE “ANGELS”?
“Angels” are experienced dancers who help others learn to square dance. They are always welcome.
WHAT IS "INTRO TO SQUARE DANCING"?
No experience required ... first-timers always welcome! Learn and dance 14 square dance calls. Try square dancing: you'll be glad you did!

WHEN AND WHERE CAN I SQUARE DANCE?
You can square dance almost any day of the week, almost anywhere in the world! American Square Dancing is in all 50 states, all 12 Canadian provinces, and over 50 countries worldwide. The calls are standardized, and always given in English. In the local area, you can find square dancing for all levels The next time you're at Lakewood, look for flyers announcing other square dance opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
Some square dance events have dress codes. At Lakewood, all sessions are Casual Attire or Your Choice. Dress comfortably and neatly, and wear comfortable shoes suited for dancing. You are certainly welcome to wear square dance clothes, but the main thing we want to see at a dance is YOU, in any clothes you choose!
